A New Beginning | Making Her Mama

Well, where to start something is always the hardest choice. Especially when there is a wide open slate and each choice you make could determine the direction you head.

In the past I have been a chronic unblogger; you know, one of those people who will start a blog, spend hours making it beautiful, write two or three great entries, get everyone sucked into their lives and musings and then forget in a week that the blog even exists.

So, I now have a partner in crime! Perhaps with the two of us we can keep on top of it and remind each other that all of you are actually interested in the crazy antics that we get up to in our kitchens!

So, welcome! We are two hens in the kitchen! Our goal is to share with you the journey we have started with our families to becoming healthy and self sufficient in as many ways as possible. What on earth would inspire us to do such a thing? We both love cooking, we want to feed our families good food that is good for us and the earth and we want to do it cheaply! And the more we looked into possibilities, the more we have learned about all the different areas of life where we can have more control over what we use and where it comes from.

As with all journeys, ours is bound to be filled with bumps and bruises, but we will share it all! The good times, the bad times, the funny stories so you can live, learn and laugh with us too πŸ™‚

I am looking forward to learning through your experiences! This is something that I have been wanting to establish with our family too. You ladies will be my inspiration that it is possible to start! Nicole

  • Our first #harvest of #rhubarb ! We got 1/4 pound. So what do you do with such a small amount of this vegetable? (That's right! Even though we often enjoy it like a fruit #itsavegetable ). I made #pop , rhubarb pop!! It was delicious πŸ˜‹What is your favourite rhubarb treat??

  • #messy tables usually cause me grief! But not this time, when I turned around and saw our #kitchentable a complete cluttered #mess, I felt happy πŸ’• today my table reflects the mom I want to be for my kids always. We went on a #naturewalk together, #collected leaves, make #leafprint artwork and enjoyed each other! Our messy kitchen table reflects the love and learning that happened here today. What about you? What made you smile today?
  • This #sweet and #serious boy is on the count down to #threeyears! Time goes so fast it's crazy!!! If you've been following my feed for awhile you know how old my baby is! If you multiply his age and Mickey Blues age - they are the square root of my next oldest son! He just had a birthday. How old did he turn??? #math #riddles
  • I'm not good at #mushroom identification but I still like to #photograph them!! We found these little ones growing on the side of the road on our #naturewalk this morning. Izzy and I are starting a #couchto5k program and today was our first #run. We enjoyed our walk back looking at leaves and everything growing along the side of the road. He wants to learn to #identifymushroom . Anyone that can #identifythis ?
  • Things are certainly coming along well in the #garden ! The #garlic is about 2 feet tall, the #potato plants are ready to mound up, as our everbearing #strawberries have flowers on them! Despite the cooler than normal #weather at this time of year, everything is growing and growing well! I can't wait to walk through the garden in full bloom and pick our food πŸ’•
  • Happy Mother's Day everyone! I don't get to see or be with my mom this year so I wrote this letter to her for #mothersday. It's my #mothersdaygift to her and my #encouragement to #moms and #daughters everywhere. #linkinbio πŸ’•
