Welcome to Making Her Mama

I’m Nadine, a wife, stay at home About Making Her Mama author Nadinemama, homeschooler to 4 amazing boys and the creator of Making Her Mama. My desire is to share our journey of homemaking, homeschooling and homesteading with you.

I am currently learning to homestead on our small property.  I make many mistakes along the way.  But, I keep moving forward – I laugh at myself and hope to encourage you (and maybe you can learn from my mistakes too).

I am a Christian and I love Jesus will all my heart.  As such, my faith leads my actions. It is also my faith that inspires me to become the woman, wife and mother I want to be.

I love telling people that I was one of the original bloggers before that was really even a thing.

When I was 16 years old, I started writing internet based articles (over 20 years ago!).  I even got paid for it!  But, at 16 years old, I didn’t know a good thing when it hit me in the face.  So, I quickly moved on to a more “regular” job. (Yeah McDonalds!)

Now, I’ve come full circle again.  What brings me back is my love for writing.  I’m an introvert by nature; though I can talk your ear off when I’m comfortable and passionate about something.  Writing gives me the chance to share insights, funny stories, and thoughts I have that I don’t always have the opportunity to share with others.

Three years ago, my husband, my two oldest sons and I moved into the house we are in now.  We were living in a small coastal town but due to personal circumstances we needed a change.  So, we packed up and moved further up island to the small town where we now live in a little rural neighbourhood surrounded by farms and mountains.

We traded our old house for one that is half the size.   However, we doubled our land size – owning a third acre now.  Since moving and downsizing, we have been blessed not once but twice with little boys!

Raising a family is not cheap in todays economy.

I am constantly learning about budgeting, growing what we can to feed ourselves, and being wise about how we spend our time and money.

Healthy eating is very important to us and we eat gluten free (due to medical needs), dairy free by choice, and locally and organic whenever we can.  I am a THM (trim healthy mama) enthusiast and try to apply their healthy eating/weight loss principles as much as I can!

I long to live simply – being able to enjoy my kids and my husband – without stress.  So, here I will share with you all that I learn on this journey and hopefully I will make you laugh, encourage you, and maybe even teach you a thing or two.

I wish you all the best as you embrace your own journey,

  • Our first #harvest of #rhubarb ! We got 1/4 pound. So what do you do with such a small amount of this vegetable? (That's right! Even though we often enjoy it like a fruit #itsavegetable ). I made #pop , rhubarb pop!! It was delicious πŸ˜‹What is your favourite rhubarb treat??
  • #messy tables usually cause me grief! But not this time, when I turned around and saw our #kitchentable a complete cluttered #mess, I felt happy πŸ’• today my table reflects the mom I want to be for my kids always. We went on a #naturewalk together, #collected leaves, make #leafprint artwork and enjoyed each other! Our messy kitchen table reflects the love and learning that happened here today. What about you? What made you smile today?
  • This #sweet and #serious boy is on the count down to #threeyears! Time goes so fast it's crazy!!! If you've been following my feed for awhile you know how old my baby is! If you multiply his age and Mickey Blues age - they are the square root of my next oldest son! He just had a birthday. How old did he turn??? #math #riddles
  • I'm not good at #mushroom identification but I still like to #photograph them!! We found these little ones growing on the side of the road on our #naturewalk this morning. Izzy and I are starting a #couchto5k program and today was our first #run. We enjoyed our walk back looking at leaves and everything growing along the side of the road. He wants to learn to #identifymushroom . Anyone that can #identifythis ?
  • Things are certainly coming along well in the #garden ! The #garlic is about 2 feet tall, the #potato plants are ready to mound up, as our everbearing #strawberries have flowers on them! Despite the cooler than normal #weather at this time of year, everything is growing and growing well! I can't wait to walk through the garden in full bloom and pick our food πŸ’•
  • Happy Mother's Day everyone! I don't get to see or be with my mom this year so I wrote this letter to her for #mothersday. It's my #mothersdaygift to her and my #encouragement to #moms and #daughters everywhere. #linkinbio πŸ’•
