Whether you are a brand new homeschooler or a seasoned one, anyone can lose the joy in their homeschooling. Just like other aspects of life, it’s easy to get caught up in the details and busyness of life and forget why we are homeschooling. It’s also easy as life gets busy and stressful to forget that our children are the most important part of our homeschool. But there is another way, you can keep homeschooling with joy!

The year we moved to our current town was a hard year. Moving is hard anyways and adjusting to a new community takes time. It was hard to find a church to replace the church family we had left behind. It was hard to find “our people”. My oldest son struggled to find a group of friends.
As one year passed, we continued to struggle. But with the start of the new year school year, we now had 2 homeschooling kids and a newborn in the midst. And it really hit me, homeschooling wasn’t fun anymore. I had lost the joy of teaching my children – and I didn’t know how to get it back.
I feel blessed now, looking back, at the random chance of coming across a Facebook ad for a day of encouragement. It happened to be in my area! And when I asked others about it, the speaker was highly praised for being very sweet and relatable while having great advice for finding joy in homeschooling.
That speaker was Bonnie Landry. And despite the fact that attending a day conference in someone’s home without anyone else that I really knew was outside of my comfort zone, I went. And I’m so glad that I did.
I’ve revamped how I homeschool my children, and how I prioritize things in my household. I finally feel like my image of homeschooling matches our days. Now, that’s not to say that life is perfect, and neither am I or my children. We are far from it. But, what has changed is my attitude, and my outlook.
Bonnie has created a video workshop that covers the talk that I went to that day plus more. It’s a course that provides encouragement, real life stories, and actions to take control of your days. She has been sharing her workshops all across Canada!
Are you a frustrated parent? Do you want to teach outside the standard box of education? Are you trying to create a comfy and cozy homeschool? Then this video workshop is for YOU!
'Our goal is to create happy, healthy, loving adults.' ~Bonnie Landry on #homeschooling #giveaway Click To Tweet
Bonnie gives a great introduction to education in general. Have you ever stopped to think about what the goal of education is? We often say knowledge, graduation, getting ready for a job. But I love how she defines it:
The goal of education is to develop the whole person as far as possible. Take the gifts you are given and use the as far as you can.
After discussing the philosophical and practical views on education, Bonnie gives great insight into family life in general.
In this video workshop, Bonnie discusses how we can go about doing this. She has great advice for creating a family vision to look back upon when we forget why we are doing what we are doing. She shares family stories that illustrate her points of prioritizing and creating the family home that we desire.
Bonnie’s advice helps to create homes that are calm and loving through simplifying our lives and our homeschooling. She gives the tools that we need for scheduling our days, prioritizing our time, and dealing with crises.'The goal isn't perfection, but JOY' ~ Bonnie Landry on Homeschooling with Joy. #homeschool… Click To Tweet
Bonnie creates a good understanding of what education is and how it is best delivered. Furthermore, she teaches how to create the right environment for that delivery. Finally, she moves into the specifics of how we teach.
Bonnie discusses from many angles why she chose not to use much curriculum with her family. Then she shares how she DID teach her children successfully using other methods.
And that brings us back to Bonnie’s book series. The last part of the video workshop covers how to teach your children without using curriculum. It looks at what are reasonable expectations for our children at different ages and stages. Furthermore, she discusses the intricacies of teaching our kids to use math, and to read & write. Her advice goes up through the years of homeschooling and beyond.
