Homemade Chai Latte Recipe – Gluten & Dairy free, THM friendly

First of all, I love tea, and especially chai latte’s.  Due to my obsession with chai lattes, they have been my downfall for many a year.  By starting my trim healthy mama (THM) journey in the nice warm weather it was easy to do away with them for GGMS (Good girl moonshine – a healthy sip all day kind of cool drink).  But, the cool weather is setting in and I find myself craving that sweet foamy comfort again.  This homemade chai latte recipe does the trick!

The Perfect Homemade Chai Latte Recipe – trim healthy mama style

While determined to find an alternative, I’ve tried many many recipes online.  After my recent Facebook Epicure party, with new supplies in hand, I was set to try again.  Specifically, I earned loose leaf chai tea, apple pie spice and a deluxe milk brother.  Therefore, I figured these had to be the makings of a fantastic latte. And my goal was a trim healthy mama approved drink!

Who doesn’t love mason jars?!

Across my internet stumblings, I came across this recipe at Gwen’s nest for “brown sugar” which is trim healthy mama friendly.  Furthermore, it was the perfect complement to the other ingredients. So, without further ado, I give to you my new homemade chai latte recipe!!  Finally- cheaper than Starbucks and containing NO sugar.  As a result,  you are guaranteed to LOVE this drink!!

Ingredients
  1. 1-2 cups water
  2. Chai tea (1-2 tsp loose leaf or 1 tea bag)
  3. 1-2 tsp No sugar brown sugar (from Gwen's Nest)
  4. 1/4 cup cream
Instructions
  1. Boil 1-2 cups of water in a pot or in a kettle.
  2. Pour over the tea and steep for 5 minutes - I love steeping mine in a large mason jar.
  3. While the tea is steeping, heat up the cream in a small pot.
  4. Now, this is the magic step - if you don't have a frother I highly suggest investing in one - froth the warm cream.
  5. Pour tea into your mug of choice, stir in sweetener, add in frothy cream, and sprinkle with Apple Pie Spice (or any other sugar free season of your choice)
  6. Voila!!! Enjoy!
Notes
  1. There is no protein source with this drink so to keep it working with THM I pair this up with an (S) - satisfying or fats based - meal.
  2. Ignore the nutritional info down below as it's not correct for this recipe.

  • #messy tables usually cause me grief! But not this time, when I turned around and saw our #kitchentable a complete cluttered #mess, I felt happy πŸ’• today my table reflects the mom I want to be for my kids always. We went on a #naturewalk together, #collected leaves, make #leafprint artwork and enjoyed each other! Our messy kitchen table reflects the love and learning that happened here today. What about you? What made you smile today?
  • This #sweet and #serious boy is on the count down to #threeyears! Time goes so fast it's crazy!!! If you've been following my feed for awhile you know how old my baby is! If you multiply his age and Mickey Blues age - they are the square root of my next oldest son! He just had a birthday. How old did he turn??? #math #riddles
  • I'm not good at #mushroom identification but I still like to #photograph them!! We found these little ones growing on the side of the road on our #naturewalk this morning. Izzy and I are starting a #couchto5k program and today was our first #run. We enjoyed our walk back looking at leaves and everything growing along the side of the road. He wants to learn to #identifymushroom . Anyone that can #identifythis ?
  • Things are certainly coming along well in the #garden ! The #garlic is about 2 feet tall, the #potato plants are ready to mound up, as our everbearing #strawberries have flowers on them! Despite the cooler than normal #weather at this time of year, everything is growing and growing well! I can't wait to walk through the garden in full bloom and pick our food πŸ’•
  • Happy Mother's Day everyone! I don't get to see or be with my mom this year so I wrote this letter to her for #mothersday. It's my #mothersdaygift to her and my #encouragement to #moms and #daughters everywhere. #linkinbio πŸ’•
