Well, fall has finally come to the island! It came as quickly as summer did, with no transition or warning.
My little home is filled with pumpkins and gourds in preparation for Thanksgiving weekend. The mornings are cold as the ground is quickly becoming frost covered and a fire isn’t quite needed but certainly welcome to take the chill off the morning air.
And along with all these lovely changes that come with the autumn season, fruit flies!? It seems like the wrong time of year to be battling these little bugs, but, they are lingering in my kitchen right now!
So, to kick off my return to the blogging world (after a long hiatus from Two Hens in the Kitchen), I thought I would trial the quick fix for fruit flies that’s been floating around on Facebook.I made these cute little fruit fly cups using recycled fruit cups, some saran wrap, and an elastic band. The cup was filled part way with apple cider vinegar and a small squirt of dawn dish detergent. I poked small holes into the top of the saran wrap after it was stretched tight over the cup. Then, it was off to set the traps.
I placed one cup on top of our compost bucket lid and another randomly on the counter. I checked back after several minutes…..with no luck, but, it was too early to give up, so after moving on to chores and breakfast and general life, and then forgetting about them for a while…. we have had success!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
