The Star Jar….

The Star Jar.... | Making Her Mama

Okay, so Alicia’s sons teacher had the coolest idea!  It is human nature to focus on the things in our lives that are hard, frustrating, challenging, aggravating, maddening, hair-pulling…..you get the idea.  So, what can we do to help teach our children to focus on the positive things in their lives?  Or to look at the positive things about themselves?

So, here is what we came up with!  An upcycled kraft peanut butter container decorated with paper and stickers from around the house.  Easy to personalize for each child!

And inside, there are large sized popsicle sticks for either you or you and your child together to write on all the things that they are good at, “stars” at!  I happened to have enough star stickers to put a star at the top of each popsicle stick!  (By the way, I was able to find these sticks at the dollar store for $1.50 as opposed to the $5 we paid last time at Michaels!)

So, what kinds of things do you do to encourage your children and promote a healthy self confidence?

Blessings, Nadine

  • Our first #harvest of #rhubarb ! We got 1/4 pound. So what do you do with such a small amount of this vegetable? (That's right! Even though we often enjoy it like a fruit #itsavegetable ). I made #pop , rhubarb pop!! It was delicious πŸ˜‹What is your favourite rhubarb treat??

  • #messy tables usually cause me grief! But not this time, when I turned around and saw our #kitchentable a complete cluttered #mess, I felt happy πŸ’• today my table reflects the mom I want to be for my kids always. We went on a #naturewalk together, #collected leaves, make #leafprint artwork and enjoyed each other! Our messy kitchen table reflects the love and learning that happened here today. What about you? What made you smile today?
  • This #sweet and #serious boy is on the count down to #threeyears! Time goes so fast it's crazy!!! If you've been following my feed for awhile you know how old my baby is! If you multiply his age and Mickey Blues age - they are the square root of my next oldest son! He just had a birthday. How old did he turn??? #math #riddles
  • I'm not good at #mushroom identification but I still like to #photograph them!! We found these little ones growing on the side of the road on our #naturewalk this morning. Izzy and I are starting a #couchto5k program and today was our first #run. We enjoyed our walk back looking at leaves and everything growing along the side of the road. He wants to learn to #identifymushroom . Anyone that can #identifythis ?
  • Things are certainly coming along well in the #garden ! The #garlic is about 2 feet tall, the #potato plants are ready to mound up, as our everbearing #strawberries have flowers on them! Despite the cooler than normal #weather at this time of year, everything is growing and growing well! I can't wait to walk through the garden in full bloom and pick our food πŸ’•
  • Happy Mother's Day everyone! I don't get to see or be with my mom this year so I wrote this letter to her for #mothersday. It's my #mothersdaygift to her and my #encouragement to #moms and #daughters everywhere. #linkinbio πŸ’•
